How we review VPNs
GetVPN is an independent guide to choosing a VPN. We don't run or resell a VPN service, and no VPN company owns us.
What we compare
We compare providers on facts you can check, not on scores:
- Jurisdiction: the country where the company is incorporated, because its laws decide what the company can be forced to hand over.
- No-logs audits: who audited the provider's no-logs claim, when, and what the audit covered. We name the firm and the year and link the report or the provider's announcement of it.
- Notable incidents: breaches, server seizures, court cases and ownership changes that tell you how a provider's promises held up.
- Protocols: which VPN protocols the apps support, such as WireGuard and OpenVPN.
- Free tier and refund terms: whether you can try it free and how long you have to ask for your money back.
Where the facts come from
Every fact on a provider page comes from the provider's own website, an auditor's report, or reputable reporting, and each page lists its sources. We checked all of them in November 2026. If we couldn't verify something, we left it out rather than guess. Prices change often and vary by plan length, so we don't list them as fact; check the provider's site.
What we don't do
- We haven't run our own speed, streaming or leak tests, so we don't publish speed numbers or claim hands-on results.
- We don't give star ratings or scores, and we don't name an overall “best VPN”. Which provider fits depends on what you need, and each page says who it suits.
- We don't publish user reviews or testimonials.
How we choose providers
We started with six well-known providers that publish independent audits by named firms: ExpressVPN, IVPN, Mullvad, NordVPN, Proton VPN and Surfshark. They are listed alphabetically in our table, which is not a ranking. Some of them run affiliate programs and some don't; we include them either way.
How we make money
We plan to earn affiliate commissions: when you click through to a provider and buy, the provider may pay us a share at no extra cost to you. As of November 2026 we haven't joined any affiliate program yet, so the links on this site are plain links to the providers' own sites. When that changes, those links will be marked as sponsored, and the disclosure at the top of each page will stay. Commissions don't decide which providers we include or what we say about them.
Who runs GetVPN
GetVPN is run by Freedom Gateway LLC. When we call the site independent, we mean something specific: no VPN provider owns any part of GetVPN or Freedom Gateway, and no VPN provider pays us anything. The one exception will be affiliate commissions, described above and disclosed on every page with provider links. No provider has reviewed or approved what we publish.

Corrections
Providers change their terms, publish new audits and sometimes have new incidents. If a fact here is out of date, the provider's own page is the authority. Start with our comparison table or the guide to checking a no-logs claim.
